Who is MEDS?

Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) is a Christian not-for-profit organization based in Nairobi.

It is a registered Trust of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) MEDS was established in 1986 as an ecumenical partnership of the two church Secretariats to improve on accessibility to quality health care.

What’s MEDS mandate?

MEDS exists to provide reliable, quality and affordable essential medicines, medical supplies, training and other pharmaceutical services guided by Christian and Professional values thus contributing to the healing ministry of Christ.

This mission is pursued through three functions: -Supply Chain Management Services -Health Advisory Services and Quality Assurance Services.

How does MEDS know the medicine to supply?

Medicine selection is determined by a Formulary Committee that meets once a year. The committee has representatives from MEDS clients and other key players in the industry.

Questionnaires are sent to all MEDS clients to suggest drugs that need to be deleted from and those that need to be added into MEDS stock list.

How does a health facility qualify for credit?

The unit has to be affiliated to either CHAK or KCCB and must have bought on cash for more than six months.

The unit then applies for credit facility which is forwarded to MEDS Credit Control Committee for approval.
