Medicine Quality team attend workshop to support capacity-building in Africa
The Medicine Quality Research Group took part in an in-person workshop on ‘good laboratory practices’ to support capacity-building and networking for medicines regulators from different countries.
The workshop was co-organized by Radboud University Medical Center (Nijmegen), the MQRG and MEDS (Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies), and hosted in the premises of the WHO pre-qualified laboratory at MEDS, in Nairobi, Kenya.
Céline Caillet, Deputy Head of Medicine Quality Research Group, and Research Pharmacist Noudy Sengxeu, joined regulators from Ghana, Mozambique and Bangladesh for a two-week in-person workshop to increase knowledge on good practices for pharmaceutical quality control laboratories; to reflect on the preliminary results of the Wellcome Trust funded ABACUS II medicine quality study coordinated by the MQRG, and to explore opportunities for future collaboration.
The workshop participants visited MEDS’ premises and learnt about analytical techniques in the MEDS laboratory. They also attended the Pharmacy and Poisons Board to meet regulators and visited the National Control Laboratory where Céline presented the activities of the MQRG which prompted a lot of interesting discussions.
